Bus driver gets life in prison in case over deaths of Tareque- Mishuk

A Manikganj court on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment the driver of a bus involved in a road accident that killed noted filmmaker Tareque Masud, CEO of ATN News Mishuk Munier and three others.

Additional District and Session’s Judge Al Mahmud Faizul Kabir handed down the verdict.

The court, in a section of the judgment, sentenced convict bus driver Jamir Hossain, 50, to life term imprisonment and fined Tk 5,000. In default, he will have to serve three months more simple imprisonment.

In another section, Jamir was given two years of rigourous imprisonment and fined with Tk 2,000. He will serve one month’s simple imprisonment in case of failing to pay the fine.

Driver awarded life termOn August 13, 2011, Tareque Masud, Mishuk Munier, two of their film production members Wasim and Jamal, and microbus driver Mostafizur Rahman were killed in a fatal road accident on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Ghior upazila of Manikganj.

Tareque’s wife Catherine Masud, painter Dhali Al- Mamun, his wife Dilara Zaman Jolly and Tareque’s assistant Monish Rafique were also injured during the accident.
