Twelve personalities would be awarded with the Bangla Academy Shahitya Puroshkar for 2017 for their outstanding contributions to their respective field of literature.
Director General of Bangla Academy Shamsuzzaman Khan announced the names at a press briefing at the Shaheed Munir Chowdhury auditorium of the academy in the city today.
The recipients are – Mohammad Sadik and Maruful Islam (poetry), Mamun Hossain (fiction), Professor Mahbubul Haque (essay), Professor Rafiqullah Khan (research), Aminur Rahman Bhuiyan (translation), Kamrul Hasan Bhuiyan and Surma Jahid (literature on Liberation War), Shakur Majid (travelogue), Maloy Bhoumik (drama), Moshtak Ahmed (science, technology and environment) and Jhrana Dash Purokhayshto (juvenile literature).
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to hand over the awards to the recipients in the upcoming Book Fair on February 1.
Each winner of the Bangla Academy Shahitya Puroshkar would receive a cheque of Taka one lakh, a crest and a certificate.
